Young Farmers Cooperative Celebrates First Harvest in Limpopo
Polokwane — A group of young farmers in Limpopo is celebrating a milestone harvest after months of training, land preparation, and cooperative planning.
The project, backed by ANC Youth League agricultural mentors, focuses on affordable food production, water-wise farming, and local market access.
Members planted spinach, peppers, and tomatoes on a hectare leased through a community trust, using drip irrigation and shared labour schedules.
Cooperative chairperson Peter M. said the harvest proves young people can build livelihoods in rural areas: "We are not only feeding households — we are building a business mindset."
The cooperative has secured a weekly supply agreement with a local retailer and plans to expand into poultry farming next season.
Branch leaders say the model will be shared with other provinces as part of the league's food security and enterprise programme.
