ANCYL STATEMENT ON AFRIFORUM’S REHABILITATION OF APARTHEID MASS MURDERER WOUTER BASSON

The African National Congress Youth League condemns AfriForum’s decision to provide a public platform to apartheid mass murderer Wouter Basson.Basson designed weapons to exterminate Black South Africans. He poisoned Frank Chikane. He supplied chemical weapons to RENAMO. He tested biological agents on prisoners. He was charged with 67 counts, including the murder of 229 people. He earned the name “Dr Death” through the slaughter of countless Black people.

AfriForum is attempting to rehabilitate a mass murderer, rewrite history, sanitise genocide and rebrand the architects of a crime against humanity as entertainers. Those who filled that venue did not gather out of historical curiosity. They gathered to celebrate one of their own. They gathered to declare their delusions that apartheid was not a crime against humanity. They gathered to signal what AfriForum and all racist ilk pray for, namely the return of the subjugation of the Black majority. They are abusing the democratic dispensation they claim to defend.

This is AfriForum. They defend apartheid. They undermine transformation. They romanticise the killing of South Africans. This event is not an exception. It is the rule, a clear show of who and what they are. Victims wait for justice that never comes. This cannot continue. The NPA must be held accountable for why an apartheid mass murderer roams free on the streets of a democratic South Africa. The Minister of Justice must account for why apartheid’s executioners continue to walk free.

The ANCYL will not allow this historical revisionism to stand. We will defend the truth of our liberation struggle. We will resist every attempt to normalise genocide and rehabilitate mass murderers.
